Release notes

These notes list the changes a PoreStore user or API client would notice: new analyses and options, changes to results and the API, and fixes to things that went wrong. Releases are named by date, YYYY.MM.DD.N, and several can ship on the same day, so the notes are grouped by day, newest first. For what /api/v1/ promises not to change, see API versioning.

26 October 2026

  • Each analysis now picks hardware by its own memory needs.
  • The "32 GB CPU · 8 cores" option is now "48 GB CPU · 8 cores" at the same price, and a new "111 GB CPU · 8–16 cores" option costs what the 64 GB CPU option does; both take somewhat larger images than the 32 GB option did.
  • Network extraction and mercury porosimetry no longer list the 8 GB CPU option, which could not run them.
  • waLBerla permeability jobs on the 48 GB GPU · A40/A6000 tier now run up to three at a time instead of one after another.
  • beta Interfacial surface area runs on 1000³ images, including the most surface-rich ones, several times faster, and each job runs on the smallest machine its interface fits.
  • beta An image whose interface is too large to measure is refused before you are charged, with the reason.

25 October 2026

  • A result's 3D field viewer opened long after the job finished now shows its fast slices straight away instead of preparing them again.
  • STL exports can mesh the solid instead of the pore space: choose Mesh: Solid on the Export page, which is usually what 3D printing wants.
  • VTK Image Data exports larger than 5 GB now upload instead of failing.
  • The FAQ now explains that STL exports are limited to 100 million triangles, that a larger mesh is refused and refunded, and that VTK Image Data (.vti) export works for any image you can upload.
  • beta Connectivity Analysis takes about half as long on large images.
  • Mercury porosimetry now runs on images up to 1024³ voxels, and large ones finish three to four times sooner.
  • Mercury porosimetry gives the same curve on every machine: its pressure steps are exact, so some curves gain a point at their lowest pressure.
  • Large chord length, radial density, porosity profile, REV porosity and X-ray jobs run on smaller machines and cost less: a 1000³ chord length analysis is quoted 35 credits instead of 569.
  • Chord length, image cleaning, porosity profile and X-ray views run faster on large images.
  • STL exports of detailed images that used to run out of memory now complete: an export holds its mesh once.
  • An STL export that would have more than 100 million triangles (a 5 GB file) is refused before it runs and refunded, with the size the file would have had and a suggestion to export VTK Image Data or a smaller crop instead.
  • REV porosity gives the same result every time it runs on the same image.
  • Jobs and job results update in place without reloading the page or clearing selections and filters.
  • Images finish processing without interrupting library selections, batch forms or image details.
  • Changing voxel size updates image facts and results while keeping the slice viewer's position and zoom.
  • Failed uploads keep the selected file and settings so you can retry without starting over.
  • Export preparation updates its progress and download actions without replacing the rest of the page.
  • beta Scalar-field downloads report preparation failures promptly instead of appearing to run until timeout.

24 October 2026

  • Download each 2D slice as a PNG at its original resolution.
  • Find Image Management tools in Tools, with sidebar links highlighting the selected tool.
  • Create batches using the top-right Create Batch button, with a simpler page header.
  • Open filtered Jobs lists from status cards, including Pending; remove the Review failures bar.
  • Download native scalar fields together as a Zarr ZIP without converting or recompressing their data.
  • beta Large scalar-field downloads prepare faster while retaining their existing file formats and scientific values.
  • 3D Visualization shows the pressure, velocity, concentration and potential fields of recent simulations again, in the Orthoslices and Flow views, and lists any field it cannot show with the reason.
  • The ParaView Server pages say ParaView Server throughout and explain that your team's exported .vti and .stl files are copied to the server.
  • Labels on the Interactive Segmentation and Adjust Values pages use sentence case.
  • Job types use the same names as the tools: Permeability, Diffusivity, Pore Size, Radial Density, Chord Length, Basic Thresholding, Downsample and Resize.
  • Permeability is written k everywhere, including network permeability.
  • Conductivity results write relative conductivity as σ_eff/σ_s and label solid tortuosity as the solid tortuosity factor.
  • Diffusivity results show the formation factor (F = D₀/D_eff) next to the tortuosity factor, which is now labelled as such.
  • Radial density charts plot the fraction of pore volume against the distance to the solid, and chord-length charts the fraction of chords longer than each length, in place of "CDF".
  • Every launch form calls the solver choice "Backend".
  • Each tool has one name everywhere: Image Cleaning, Trimming, Adjust Values, X-Ray View and ParaView Server.
  • beta Interfacial Surface Area, Network Extraction and Noise Filtering keep one name everywhere, and Interfacial Surface Area sits under Structure.
  • Adjust Values can invert integer images with two values, such as 0/1 or 0/255.
  • Interactive segmentation labels every setting in plain words and no longer calls itself a staff test.
  • "Greyscale" is spelled one way throughout.
  • Jobs waiting for hardware now show as queued, not running, with the reason: queued behind other jobs, or waiting for hardware in short supply, which can take minutes to hours.
  • You can cancel a job that hasn't started yet, from its page or with the API's new cancel endpoint, and get a full refund.
  • A job whose hardware is unavailable now fails within minutes with a full refund, or on Auto moves to other available hardware at the same price. A job that can't start in time to finish within a day fails with a full refund.

23 October 2026

  • Uploads, thumbnails and image viewer slices start faster when several arrive at once.
  • If the hardware you chose for a job is down, PoreStore now says so before you launch, and suggests Auto, instead of keeping the job waiting for up to an hour. A job already waiting fails within a couple of minutes, with a full refund, if its hardware goes down.
  • Auto no longer leaves a job waiting when the free hardware it picked does not start it: the job moves within two minutes to the hardware it was quoted on, at the same price.
  • A job waiting for busy hardware you chose now says it is queued behind other jobs.
  • Small images now upload, preview and open in the SEM and X-ray views faster, because they no longer wait for a server to start. Prices are unchanged.
  • PoreSpy analyses have a new hardware option, "32 GB CPU · 8 cores", at the standard price. Auto also uses it when it is free, at the price Auto quoted, and if that hardware drops the job, Auto runs it on other hardware at the same price.
  • API queue names are named after their solver: send and expect walberla, kabs-taichi, tortuosity-jl, taufactor and so on in queue_name (parameter reference). The older names are still accepted.
  • The API's upload session returns the file's location as storage_key instead of s3_key (create an upload session).
  • waLBerla permeability refuses more than 1,000,000 maximum iterations when you submit, with a field error on the launch page and a 400 in the API, instead of failing on the solver.
  • API diffusivity and conductivity jobs that leave out solver_tolerance (Tortuosity.jl) or max_iterations (TauFactor) run with the defaults the parameter schema lists, instead of being refused.
  • API results, job details and image details no longer show where PoreStore stores your images or what runs a job, and SEM View and X-Ray View results no longer include an internal storage key (results).
  • beta API network extraction and network validation jobs that leave out optional settings run with the defaults the launch form shows, instead of being refused. The job page labels the extraction setting "Method".
  • beta Resize and Downsample jobs list the settings you chose on their job page, with the method by name (resizing).
  • beta A connectivity analysis that fails because its solver needs an update tells you so, instead of showing a generic failure.

22 October 2026

  • waLBerla permeability runs on regenerated solver kernels, which move permeabilities by less than one part in a million, and each job records the waLBerla revision its solver was built from.
  • TauFactor diffusivity and conductivity on an image with no through path stop at the first convergence check and report zero, instead of running to the iteration limit and reporting a vanishingly small value with a huge tortuosity.
  • A ParaView Server session that no ParaView client connects to shuts down after its idle timeout, instead of running, and being billed, until its maximum lifetime.
  • beta Network extraction (SNOW2 and MAGNET) gives the same network for the same image every time; networks extracted earlier may differ slightly from a new extraction, which moves MAGNET network permeability by up to a few percent.

21 October 2026

  • Browser and API uploads accept files and archives up to 4 GiB (completing an upload).
  • The upload page explains single images, NPZ archives of up to 32 arrays, ZIP archives of separate images, and cloud links.
  • Integer images with two values, such as 0/255, are recognised as binary while keeping their original values, and an image's details show Binary, Greyscale or Unknown separately from its storage type, updated when you refresh the image (preparing images).
  • Download image on an image page opens an export of that image instead of failing.
  • PoreStore shows support@porestore.com as its contact address on the sign-up and terms pages.
  • beta A folder or ZIP of slice images can be uploaded as one 3D image, with a Choose folder button that shows the folder, its slice count and size.

20 October 2026

  • PoreStore has a privacy policy.
  • A job you send to the gpu-48gb-rtx-8000 tier yourself waits up to an hour for a GPU to come free, then fails (compute tiers).

19 October 2026

Analyses

  • Pore size distribution and radial density use the same bins, one per voxel of radius up to 200 bins, so the two distributions line up on any image; radial density no longer takes a number of bins, and the API refuses bins and log for radial_density and sizes for poresize (parameters).
  • Mercury porosimetry results include the invasion sequence and invasion pressure as voxel images, shown in the slice viewer and downloadable as scalar fields.
  • beta Network validation starts with the Cones and Cylinders shape model, so its defaults work on SNOW2 and MAGNET networks, and says when the network has no diameter property by the name you chose, listing the ones it has.

Compute

  • Permeability, diffusivity and conductivity can run on 48 GB RTX 8000 GPUs, and with Auto a job runs on an idle one when the image fits (compute tiers).
  • Compute tiers are named by their hardware and memory, such as 48 GB GPU · RTX 8000, and the API's tier keys follow, such as gpu-48gb-rtx-8000, in requests and responses.
  • The PoreSpy backend is called porespy on job pages, launch forms and in the API, and its old name is still accepted.
  • Each job records the GPU or CPU it ran on, shown as Hardware Used on its page and as compute_hardware in the API (the job object).

Account and images

  • You can sign in with Google or GitHub.
  • Two-factor codes are accepted when your phone's clock is a little off, or when you type the code just as it changes.
  • During updates you see a short maintenance page instead of an error.
  • Saving an edit over an image always updates its porosity and other measurements.
  • Thumbnails of large images no longer fail for lack of memory.

18 October 2026

  • New pore size distribution results keep their local-thickness map, for the slice viewer and scalar-field download.

17 October 2026

  • Interactive Segmentation is available to every team, on images up to 600 voxels per side, and gives a binary image at the original size.
  • Basic thresholding keeps dark voxels as pore by default, with an option to invert for bright pores, starts the local block size at 200, and always saves a new binary image, keeping the greyscale source.
  • Binary images whose pores are all one voxel in radius upload successfully.
  • Tool names use Title Case, and the 3D render launcher is called ParaView Server, with its own card in Tools.
  • beta Interfacial surface area holds voxel faces fixed around edge and corner contacts while smoothing, reports how much of the surface that constrained, and no longer depends on where an object sits in the image.
  • beta Interfacial surface area can remove isolated voxels before measuring, and reports their counts and the raw areas before and after.
  • beta Porosity Analysis is renamed Connectivity Analysis.

16 October 2026

  • Team Settings brings together team details, members, invitations, API keys and the danger zone, User Settings brings together account details, email, password and two-factor settings, and the account menu opens both.
  • Profile pictures show the uploaded picture and keep it after a refresh.
  • VTK, STL and NPZ exports are grouped under Export on the Jobs page.

15 October 2026

Export

  • Export uses one form for the image (VTK or STL) and for a result's scalar fields (an NPZ archive, or VTK image data for ParaView), with the image's voxel size, and download links on results open it.
  • STL exports produce downloadable files.
  • beta STL exports offer marching cubes and a choice of mesh representation.

Jobs and viewers

  • Many jobs can run at the same time, and updates to PoreStore no longer pause or slow down running jobs.
  • The field viewer shows the value of the voxel you select again, and on conductivity results reads it on the solid, where the field lives.

Navigation

  • The top bar has Tools beside Images and Batches beside Jobs, the logo returns home, and Home's Run Operation tile opens Tools.
  • Images show which batch they belong to, and can be filtered by batch.
  • The image page no longer shows the radial density graph made at upload, though its values and CSV download remain.
  • beta Resize works on greyscale images, keeping the interpolated intensities.

14 October 2026

Analyses

  • Conductivity, and chord length and radial density on the solid phase, are available to every team; conductivity runs directly on the segmented image and shows the normalised potential through the solid.
  • Diffusivity and conductivity with Tortuosity.jl keep solving until they reach the target accuracy you set, completing with the accuracy reached if their extra solving runs out, and the Convergence panel shows how much extra solving a job did.
  • waLBerla permeability accepts any iteration count.
  • An image whose stored voxels can't be read shows as unreadable, and PoreStore refuses to run analyses on it.

Viewers

  • Three-plane viewers offer Linear and Orthogonal layouts, crosshair and label controls, a shared colour map, wheel or pinch zoom and drag to pan.
  • Scalar-field viewers show the value at the selected X, Y, Z location.
  • Field viewers and the slice slider load much faster for users far from PoreStore's servers, and a job's field viewer becomes fast by itself a few seconds after the job finishes.
  • The image viewer no longer downloads whole axes in the background when your browser asks to save data.

Interface

  • Working pages share a tools sidebar with category icons, and result pages share measurement tables, chart and data panels, and an Available Actions menu with a PDF or HTML report.
  • Operation forms share one layout, run buttons say Run, image-processing forms suggest an output name, and saving offers one Save as New / Overwrite Original toggle.
  • Trimming previews have edge handles as well as corner handles.
  • PoreStore has a new copper porous-cube logo.

Account

  • A ParaView Server session that ends before its server starts never starts later.
  • After resetting a forgotten password you're signed straight in, after your two-factor code if you use one.
  • Uploaded files that never became an image are deleted after 7 days, an API upload must be completed within 6 days, and the Terms of Service say how long files are kept and what deleting an image, a team or an account removes.
  • beta Downsample and Resize update the output shape, storage and voxel size as you change settings, and their images get the instant slice slider.

13 October 2026

Jobs

  • A job no longer shows as Failed while its automatic retry is still to come.
  • A job cancelled before or while it runs stays cancelled, never runs again, and leaves no image, file or result behind.
  • Several long simulations queued on the same image all run in turn, instead of the later ones failing after 30 minutes.
  • Jobs waiting in line when PoreStore restarts for an update carry on within seconds.
  • Errors on job pages, image pages and in the API say what went wrong in plain words, without internal service names, file paths or tracebacks.
  • Reports open even when they include a completed job with no figures.
  • Diffusivity on the A40/A6000 tier solves large images about a third faster.

Images and segmentation

  • Setting an image's voxel size to zero, a negative number, NaN or infinity is refused with a clear message, in the app and in /api/v1/ uploads, and so is an image name with an invisible control character.
  • An upload that hits a brief network error fetches only the failed piece again, instead of failing or starting over.
  • Basic thresholding previews open in a zoomable slice viewer with a swipe divider to compare the original and the result, keeping your zoom as you change settings.

API

  • Job responses name the compute tier selected_compute_tier, replacing the earlier, provider-specific field name.
  • A request for a team your key can't access gets the same 404 not_found as a team that doesn't exist (errors).
  • beta Network validation no longer fails, or removes the wrong pores, on networks with isolated pores, and computes permeability and diffusivity on exactly the connected network.

12 October 2026

  • The Tools catalogue, on the home page and in the Tools menu, shows every analysis by category with worked examples, solver and runtime guidance, and marks planned ones Coming soon.
  • Basic thresholding previews a slice and queues the full-image job from one page.
  • In the API, a job whose image was deleted reports image_id as null instead of the text "None".
  • The API reference describes every endpoint, its path parameters and most response fields.
  • beta Noise Filtering smooths greyscale images before segmentation, with zoom, pan and a swipe comparison of a whole slice, and saves the result as a new image or over the original.
  • beta Connectivity analysis reports pore connectivity and checks the solid phase for floating solid, disconnected solid volume and spanning clusters in each direction.

11 October 2026

  • Permeability results give k in millidarcy (k_mD, permeability [mD]) and permeability [m^2] for the image's current voxel size, on result pages and in the API (results).
  • Permeability results no longer include the voxel_size the job ran with; voxel_size_um gives the image's current voxel size.
  • In the API, a request for a team that doesn't exist returns the standard JSON error, "not found" errors have the code not_found and no longer name internal models, and a porosity profile submitted without an axis gets a validation error instead of a server error.
  • beta Palabos permeability simulates every pore in the image, reads its tolerance as a relative change in permeability that must hold on two consecutive checks, and no longer reports "converged" for a run too short to check or with no flow.
  • beta Network validation's permeability and k_mD, and interfacial surface area's voxel_size_um, follow changes to the image's voxel size.

7 October 2026

  • Re-running SEM View or X-Ray View on an image whose views an earlier run already computed finishes in seconds, in the app and the API.
  • Clicking through a simulation's concentration, pressure or velocity slices redraws instantly, including along the longest axis of large images.
  • Saving an edit over an image replaces the original only once the edited image is completely saved, and waits for any other job writing that image.
  • A result whose 3D fields are no longer stored says so, instead of showing a field viewer that fails to load.

6 October 2026

  • X-Ray View works on images whose width and height differ, and its XY panel shows the projection the right way round.
  • A job's page shows each convergence check for diffusivity and permeability with the value it reached and its target, including failed runs, and a failed diffusivity run says which check it missed and by how much.
  • Deleting an image, a team or an account removes every stored copy of its data, including the original upload, and a mesh you import, such as an STL, is kept with the image made from it and deleted with it.
  • Job pages, the Jobs page, the image page and the library update by themselves within seconds of a job or upload finishing.
  • Uploads, image edits, SEM View and X-Ray View finish much sooner, and a finished simulation's field viewer opens almost instantly.
  • A job that would leave an image unviewable fails with a clear error instead of reporting success.

5 October 2026

  • The cross-section slider of uploaded and edited images moves instantly, and changing the colour map no longer waits for the server.
  • Diffusivity and permeability jobs start and finish sooner, especially when none has run for a while, and edited images get their new thumbnail and measurements sooner.

4 October 2026

  • beta Downsample saves a smaller image by keeping every second, third or fourth voxel.
  • beta Resize shrinks or grows an image by interpolation, keeping its porosity, on images up to 400³ and up to 600³ when enlarging, showing the new dimensions, storage and voxel size.
  • beta Interfacial surface area returns a curve with a topology warning, instead of refusing, when surfaces touch only along an edge or corner.

3 October 2026

  • SEM View prepares faster, with the same appearance and interactive slicing.
  • The Terms of Service name Porolytics Inc., the company behind PoreStore, and describe the licences of the scientific packages it runs.
  • Emails from PoreStore start their subject with [PoreStore], and the API documentation is titled PoreStore Automation API.
  • Analyses in beta are left out of /analysis-types/ for teams without access to them, and a job already accepted can still be retried after its beta closes.
  • beta Interfacial surface area measures the pore–solid area with smoothing, giving the area after each smoothing pair, leaving out the caps at the image edges, and exporting in the image's current units.

2 October 2026

  • Home has four cards: upload images, browse the gallery, run an operation and review jobs.
  • Team management shows the current team, lets you switch teams, accept incoming invitations and request to join a team, and invitation emails take signed-in recipients straight there.
  • Analysis results have a Back to Image button beside the run action.
